Arms Trade
The international arms trade is big business. The profits generated from the production and sale of weapons are put above the lives of the people these weapons are used against. Since its founding in 1915, WILPF has called out war profiteering as the biggest obstacle to peace. Reaching Critical Will continues this work by holding governments to account to their obligations under national and international law, working with WILPF’s human rights programme to make submissions to human rights forums on arms transfers, and challenging weapons production and military spending.

Fact Sheets

Activism

In addition to WILPF Sections' national and local work to challenge the arms trade, Reaching Critical Will also participates in and supports local initiatives to raise awareness about the devastating impacts of the arms trade and hold governments to account. We are also active supporters of the 16 days of activism against gender violence campaign, held each year, where we highlight the link between arms proliferation, militarism, and gender-based violence, see for examples of our engagement: 2020; 2019; 2016; 2013; 2011. We are also working to hold governments espousing a “feminist foreign policy” to account, and to help those interested in developing such policies to do so in a truly feminist way, including stopping arms exports.
