Outer Space
Space has been militarised since the earliest communication satellites were launched. Today, militaries all over the world use satellites for command and control, communication, monitoring, early warning, and navigation with the Global Positioning System. They can use satellites to direct bombing raids or to orchestrate a “prompt global strike” capability, which is “the ability to control any situation or defeat any adversary across the range of military operations.” But even that is not enough—some states are also trying to weaponise outer space.

Activism

RCW co-hosted the International Week of Protest to Stop the Militarisation of Space in 2013 and continues to support the prevention of the militarisation and weaponisation of outer space by signing onto joint statements and creating space for the issue to be covered in its monitoring of the First Committee.
