Reaching Critical Will has monitored and analysed meetings and outcomes of multilateral disarmament forums since 1999. RCW is unique in its experience of doing so and its resources are widely used by government delegations, UN staff, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) all over the world.
RCW also acts as civil society coordinator for various fora, including the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, the First Committee on Disarmament and International Security, and the Open-ended working group in information and communication technology (OEWG on ICT), amongst others. This means that we’re facilitating civil society registration, and coordinate our colleagues’ participation via their delivery of statements and organising of side events.
RCW’s activities offer a unique tool for enhancing understanding and sharing rapid and accurate information of often complex, and otherwise inaccessible decision-making multilateral processes on weapons and war. We also work to encourage gender, racial, and regional diversity in disarmament, including by providing an intersectional feminist analysis of issues and processes, and by urging governments and activist groups to ensure diversity of perspectives, experiences, and identities in their delegations.
