OEWG voteDuring the final session of the UN open-ended working group on nuclear disarmament in Geneva in August, 107 states expressed support for the convening of a conference in 2017 to negotiate a legally-binding instrument to prohibit nuclear weapons, leading towards their total elimination. This proposal formed the key recommendation in the working group’s report, adopted on 19 August with overwhelming support.

The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) has prepared an overview of the support indicated for the negotiation of a prohibition treaty, quoting from statements of those that indicated their support for the treaty during the OEWG as well as the tally for the vote on the working group's report.
